Nelson Tasman businesses are more positive than the rest of NZ with 75% expecting their situation improve over the coming year.
These are the results of a NZ Chambers of Commerce Survey which 115 local businesses participated in.
Nationally the survey found 42% of respondents expected the NZ economy to improve over the next 12 months and 65% expected to see an improvement in their own business situation during that time.
Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce chief executive Dot Kettle says the higher level of business confidence in the Nelson region tallied with anecdotal evidence about the performance of the local economy.
“Things are looking good with key export markets and that always bodes well for our region.
“It is particularly encouraging to see in this survey that 45% of local businesses surveyed are expecting to increase staff numbers over the next 12 months and fewer than 4% are expecting staff cuts.
“This survey confirms that our region is a fantastic place to do business in and from, and that local business owners are extremely positive about doing business here.”
