Luncheon with American Chamber of Commerce Guest Speaker, Mike Hearn

A group of Nelson exporters attended a luncheon Friday 14th December 2012, where guest speaker Mike Hearn from the American Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand offered local exporters the opportunity to quiz him on a variety of questions about their present situations regarding exporting their products into the US market.

Group discussion took place on topics including;

- Needing help finding outlets for their products.

- Finding the right sized company to deal with, the vastly different scale of US companies is challenging.
- Assistance with contacts

- Redesigning products to suit the US market
- The challenges of FTA paperwork and requirements
- IP issues
- Progress on the TTP agreement

- Freight costs were said to be a trade barrier.

Mike committed to finding answers and solutions to specific questions raised.

He assured the businesses they should feel free to make contact for assistance in future regarding exporting into the US market.
